An at-a-glance look at our last week of activities

Hello everyone!

Thank you for sticking with us in this last week of activity related to Showing Up, Speaking Out. It’s been quite an exciting journey and I am sorry about taking so long to post summaries of daily activity here on the SUSO blog.

But, since this week is just as action packed as all the others, I wanted to create an “at-a-glance” summary of what is coming up, beginning with activity planned for this evening and including other, related events organized by fellow community members…

  • Wed, Sept 29 — 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. — aceartinc. (2nd floor, 290 McDermot Ave) — Deborah Kelly and PeerProject4Youth carry on the project initiated on Sept 27. All welcome to join in and help =-)
  • Thurs, Sept 30 — 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. — aceartinc. — Deborah Kelly on the topic of “diversity”. All welcome to create a brand new project
  • Thurs, Sept 30 — 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. — Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre, 430 Langside Street — Take Back the Night 2010. All welcome!
  • Fri, Oct 1 — 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. — Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art, 611 Main StreetDeborah Kelly gives a free talk on the topic: “Global Activist Art and Actions”
  • Fri, Oct 1 — 6:30 p.m. — meet at aceartinc. to be part of the Stop Violence Against Aboriginal Women Action Group “No More Stolen Sisters” human billboard intervention project. Action site to be announced at the meeting to facilitate organization and travel as a group.
  • Sat, Oct 2 — 1:00 5:00 p.m. — aceartinc. — Deborah Kelly on the topic of “diversity”. All welcome to create a brand new project
  • Sun, Oct 3 — 1:00 p.m. — meet at aceartinc. to be part of the Stop Violence Against Aboriginal Women Action Group “No More Stolen Sisters” human billboard intervention project. Action site to be announced at the meeting to facilitate organization and travel as a group.
  • Sun, Oct 3 — 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. — aceartinc. — Deborah Kelly to meet with members of Winnipeg’s young feminist collective, FemRev
  • Mon, Oct 4 — 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. — aceartinc. — Free public talk about Showing Up, Speaking Out, community building, and art as activism. Artists Leah Decter, Deborah Kelly, and Kristin Nelson will be present.
  • Mon, Oct 4 — 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. — Legislative Building in the back by the fountain — Vigil for missing and murdered women organized by Sisters in Spirit

The exhibition space serving as home base for this project is open for viewing during aceartinc’s regular operating hours: Tuesday – Saturday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Showing Up, Speaking Out closes on October 5. An e-publication is forthcoming… stay tuned.
