The following information was sent by Niki Little,  Art Program Coordinator at  North End Arts Centre / Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc.  It is being reposted here to help circulate news about this week-long series of events seeking to bring an end to the violence experienced by so many Aboriginal women and girls.

Rekindling the Fire” is a free week-long community art event hosted by the North End Arts Centre and local guest artist, Leah Fontaine. This form of art representation is a public cry challenging Canadians to recognize the monstrosity of violence against Aboriginal women that will engage the public. Interested participants are invited to visually express their views and relevant issues through art by creating paper lanterns, which will be collected and showcased on October 4, 2010 in a tea light ceremony that will be lighted with LED tea lights. The event will also include other guest artists such as Jackie Traverse with presentations by Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc.’s Outreach team leader, Debbie Cumby on Wednesday, September 29 at 7:30pm. There is no registration fee required and all materials will be provided. Details will be announced closer to the date.

Dates: Monday, September 27 – Friday, October 1, 2010, 6pm -10pm

Wednesday, September 29, 2010 – Presentation by Debbie Cumby 7:30pm

Where: The North End Arts Centre

The Ndinawe Youth Resource Centre, 472 Selkirk Avenue

Rekindling Event: October 3 or 4, 2010
